My grandson (2 ½ years) recently pushed a child (2 years). We were at an early morning event in the park. It felt as though it came out of nowhere. Fortunately, we were with a very dear friend. The child pushed was her grandson. This, defensive response, was not at all provoked by the other child. She, my friend, chuckled and said he must be a type 8.

Something happens in the transference of thought to page. I write in cursive before I head to the computer with my words. It’s too easy to be critical with the constant distractions of the internet, spell check and word count. Here’s often how it goes within the process of getting thoughts to page.

I’ve always believed that when we relocate or move, we move more than just stuff. In a sense we are moving our altar space, a space to which we return to repeatedly to focus on a particular thing even if its something as spontaneous as play. By rubbing the lamp so to speak, we are creating a residue of practice or grooved habit that seasons the space with the history of our activity. No wonder we experience emotional memory, exhaustion, excitement and frustration as we shift our reference points and orientation to a new space.

We extend warm congratulations to our faculty member Cathy Hudson! Earlier this year, Cathy received the IEA Accredited Professional distinction from the International Enneagram Association. Since obtaining this honor, Cathy has joined our founder Dr. Deborah Ooten in co-facilitating the offerings at our IEA Accredited School, the School of Conscious Living.

The Enneagram is a psycho-spiritual system with roots, connections, and grounding in a variety of spiritual traditions. Exploring the spiritual roots of the Enneagram, one can find connections between the Enneagram and a variety of other systems. One such system is Ayurveda, an ancient Indian spiritual tradition. Exploration of both systems shows that the spiritual underpinnings of the Enneagram and Ayurveda both intersect.

I remembered interviewing Dr. Debbie Ooten, owner of the Conscious Living Center, on the radio and had lunch with her. She extended an offer to me to join her at the Center where I would attend the School of Conscious Living for two years and become certified as an Enneagram Teacher and Life Coach. The Enneagram is a psycho-spiritual tool describing our unconscious/habitual ways of thinking, feeling and behaving as well as the underlying motivation. It is a powerful tool for developing self-observation and becoming more conscious and aware, engendering conscious choice.

We’ve received more wonderful news about our founder, Dr. Deborah Ooten! Dr. Ooten has been invited to participate in the opening panel at May’s International Enneagram Summit in Lisbon, Portugal. The Connecting Views panel will start the conference and include four past & present International Enneagram Association presidents: Ooten, Maria Jose Munita, Uranio Paes, and Curt Micka.
